3 Tips for Keeping Pet Dander at Bay in Your Louisville Home

Good air quality in your home is crucial to keeping your Louisville, Kentucky, home comfortable. This is especially true for homeowners who have pets. Check out some of the tips below to help keep pet dander at bay.

Keep Your Pet Well-Groomed

You love your furry friends, but you don’t love living with their dander. Dander builds up on your pet’s coat, then sheds off around your home as they move around. You can help reduce the amount of pet dander that they leave behind by making sure you regularly brush and bathe them. Try to brush your pet a couple of times a week outside so that the hair and dander won’t get kicked up and just recirculate indoors. Make sure you bathe your furry friend once a week as well, bathing them outside of the home if at all possible.

Vacuum Often

Keeping your floors clean will go a long way in keeping dander from circulating in your air. Make sure to vacuum your floors every other day, paying close attention to areas where your pet sleeps, eats, and plays. When vacuuming and sweeping, make sure to get under furniture and into the corners of the room. At least once a month, use the vacuum brush attachment to remove buildup from the vents in your home.

Keep Your HVAC System Maintained

Pet dander can get trapped in your HVAC system’s air filter, often meaning that you need to change the filter more often. By regularly changing your filter, you will improve the airflow and function of the system so it can continue to trap dander particles and prevent them from recirculating in your air supply.
